For anyone that does not already know, a close friend of ours passed away a few weeks back, his name was Pingu and he ran the Anarchistic Undertones nights in Manchester. He was close to us and has done more for Pumpkin over the years than anyone else as well as helping the DIY punk scene and pretty much anything he put his mind to. When we were stuck in Devon in a band who struggled to wash ourselves, let alone travel the country he picked us up and gave us the chance to play in Manchester. Since then we did that regularly and he got our name about everywhere. With this came our label, again Pingu put our logo's on all of his flyers, and generally sorted us out every way he could......in fact he even stuck up for us to the point of shitting on a venues doorstep in dirty protest!!We are going to be putting out a benefit compilation to help raise money for his family towards funeral costs or, helping towards his close friends carrying on the Anarchistic Undertones nights, charity or whatever else his family sees best. There is also a benefit gig on Dec 13th which is at Jabez Clegg, Manchester and will have bands getting back together just to play it as well as bands travelling half the country to be there!!! It will be a great gig, and a bloody good send off!
The CD will include bands he knew, bands he has put on over the years and some of his favourite bands! the CD is DIY and every penny goes to his family.
We absolutely love Pingu for who he was and everything he has done for us over the years, when no one else wanted to know he kept on it and the labels initial growth is pretty much due to him.
Again we owe so much to him, we all live in Manchester now, and if it was not for him i would not have had the chance to meet Olivia, the friends we now have or the places we go, half the bands we've met and put on Pumpkin, but more importantly getting closer to a place where there really is a sense of community and where there genuinely is a sense of change where something positive can be achieved.
We all to give a big thanks to a fucking amazing person!!
